Building a More Accessible Church and Parish Hall

"Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you." – Romans 15:7

Our construction project progresses!

Over the last several months, the construction team has done much:

  • interior demolition is nearly complete apart from the space where the new entrance to the sanctuary will go;

  • new bathrooms and nursery spaces are well on the way to completion;

  • kitchen plumbing and electrical rough in is complete;

  • the new staircase is in and nearing completion;

  • approvals for the elevator to the sanctuary have been received;

  • an unexpected but required upgrade to the fire alarm system is in process;

  • kitchen appliances have been received at Flemington Department Store.

Between now and October 4, we expect the handicapped accessible bathrooms to be finished and work commenced on the handicapped access to the sanctuary.

We received estimates for a concrete ramp that were prohibitively high. In consultation with our architect and the builder and with input from Keith Conover, we are looking to have a ramp that will take folks from the parking lot to the existing walkway and then to an elevator that will tuck in next to the existing set of steps. This approach will also be quicker to install. The estimate for this project has just been received and the finance team and vestry will be reviewing it over the next few days.

There are a couple of add-ons we have asked about. One is to replace the furnace. This has been on the agenda since before our construction project began. The other is reconfiguring the air conditioning system so that all spaces have proper cooling - offices, classrooms, kitchen, etc. The estimates for these have also just come in.

On the funding side, we have been very gratified by the response. As you may recall, the goal was to raise $150,000. So far, we are about 85% of the way towards our goal. We have also received $4,000 from the Diocese to support our efforts towards enhancing handicapped accessibility. As you are able and if you have not already done so, please consider helping us to reach 100% of the goal.

The original time estimate for completion was about six months. We pray that this will end up being realistic! But, however it works out, we are grateful for the adaptability and patience of all you.

Many thanks.

For the Finance Team,

Jean Good
